The Acid Test
nninnniniinnnnnniniiinnnnnnniinininiinninnnnnnniniinnnnnn =
To know whether gold is pure, you test it with acids. But |
the Acid Test for barns is Service.
We have told you in our catalog of Farm Buildings that
Gordon Van Tine Barns are the best barns you can buy. We
have made strong claims for the excellence of design, the prac-
ticability of them, and the high quality of the material. We have
told you how strongly built they are, how fine looking they
will be.
Now we offer you the proof. In this booklet are actual
photographs unretouched of Gordon Van Tine Farm Buildings,
built in many states. They show you exactly how fine these
barns look when built by the owners themselves or common,
everyday carpenters. These photographs prove that Gordon
Van Tine Barns when actually built are just as the catalog de-
scribes them — that you get what you pay for.
And more important, even, than the pictures, are the letters
from the owners, printed alongside them. Read these state-
ments with the utmost care. They express exactly what these
plain, common-sense farmers think about their Gordon Van Tine
Barns, after they have built them, and used them — after they
have put them through the Acid Test.
Read this booklet carefully. It proves that our catalog of
Farm Buildings is right. It proves that our statements are con-
servative, dependable, and that we do what we say we will do.
When you have finished reading this booklet you will re-
gard your Gordon Van Tine catalog of Farm Buildings with re-
newed confidence — for you will know that you will get the build-
ing you order, and that it will be up to your every expectation.

Two Sensible,
Practical, Gordon-Van Tine Barns
Two, handsome, roomy, well-built barns, which would do credit to any farm.
All material and plans furnished by Gordon-Van Tine.
Notice the graceful lines of the gable roofs, shaped so as to allow large open
hay mows. Equipped with neatly designed doors and windows, which give a finished
appearance and make a very attractive exterior. We call special attention to the
large double windows of the lower view admitting sunshine in winter and making it
cool in summer. These barns are exceedingly well planned and both are equipped
with Gordon modern ventilating systems and all the other up-to-date fixtures which
make the present day barns so superior to those of a few years ago in regard to
convenience and economy of labor. Gordon-Van Tine has sold such barns to hun-
dreds of middle west farmers, and if you were to see and examine these barns you
would understand why they have given universal satisfaction. Placed on the market
at wholesale prices.

Barn Built for
Chris Buckman, Alpha, Minn.
A NOTHER Gothic bam, plan No.
^~^ 221, size 36x54. Notice what
Mr. Buchman says about the quality
of the lumber, and how we saved him
money. As in all other localities, this
type of barn gives complete satisfac-
tion. It is one of the most practical
designed barns and is rapidly becom-
ing the most popular type of barn on
the market. The cost of this barn
complete was only about $2,000.
/^NE reason why the Gothic type is
becoming more popular every day
is shown by lower left view. Note the
big, roomy loft that this form of con-
struction gives, absolutely free of tim-
bers of any kind. This roof is not
only smooth inside, but more durable
than ordinary forms, and provides the
best kind of roof to lay a wood shingle,
as it has perfect drainage on all points.

cattle feeding barn, costing complete only
about $2,400, and which will earn good inter-
est on double that sum by making easier the care of
feeding cattle. Good materials together with good
workmanship in building has made this barn one of
the best in that section of the country. Study these
pictures, read Mr. Schneider's letter. You cannot
fail to see the truth of this statement.

House and Barn of Chas. O'Connor,
Faribault, Minn.
THESE buildings were bought of Gordon-Van Tine in
1916. Mr. O'Connor's recent letter tells whether or
not he is pleased with his purchase. He is just another
one of our thousands of satisfied customers, situated in all
parts of the country. Neat, serviceable, inexpensive set of
barn buildings. A set of buildings such as the average size
farms need and will pay high income to their owners. The
cost of erecting such buildings as these amounts to a very
few dollars per acre on a medium size farm and adds many
dollars per acre to the land value. Good buildings are always
a good investment on any farm, when considering their ac-
tual selling value alone, besides their usefulness to the
farmer.

Gentlemen: Our new
barn, for which you fur-
nished the ready cut lum-
ber and other building
materials, is now done.
We are well satisfied
with our deal with you.
We had but little diffi-
culty in putting- up the
building and it makes a
fine appearance npw that
it is finished and painted.
Taking into account the
present high cost of labor
and materials, we no
doubt saved $ 2 0 0.0 0
through buying with you.
Very truly yours,

PLAN No. 226, material all furnished by Gordon- Van Tine. A well-
built barn throughout, practical and a good investment. Designed
for the average size farm, strongly made, neat in appearance. The
best of material was furnished for this
barn and it was built at a total cost of
about $1,000, an extremely low figure
for such a building, as every farmer
knows. Gordon-Van Tine is putting
up this kind of barn all over and can
do the same for you.

W. M. Teed's Bam,
Windom, Minn.
PLANS and materials for this barn and annex were furnished by Gordon-Van Tine.
Barn is plan No. 227, annex plan No. 23 1. Barn size is 30x36. Finished cost
was about $1,600. A well built, serviceable barn for an average size farm.
This form of barn is very popular, the annex providing an excellent cow barn, and at
small increased cost. This form of annex can be added on to any barn of this shape
very easily, and many farmers who find this barn too small have bought this form of
annex and have found it very satisfactory. Notice the small hay mow door, conveni-
ently located. Mr. Teed is a practical, every-day farmer who believes that good
buildings pay. Read what he has to say concerning his dealings with Gordon-Van
Tine. We have hundreds of customers who feel as he does. We wish you might talk
to them all and see their barns.
This massive Northern Illinois dairy barn is 36x132 feet. Materials furnished
complete by Gordon-Van Tine, including steel cow stalls, calf pens and modern ven-
tilating system. Barn was unpainted when this picture was taken. Cost completed
was about $4,000.00. Highest grade of lumber and equipment throughout and it
represents a sound paying investment.

Gentlemen: My barn is
completed and is considered
by all who have seen it to
be one of the best farm build-
ings in our locality. The lum-
ber was free from knots and
we experienced but little dif-
ficulty in erecting it. We
had a very severe wind here
that came near wrecking our
silo, but the barn stood firm
through the storm, and was
ui.injured. We saved money
by buying our ready cut lum-
ber and building materials of
you.

BARN and hog house built by Mr. F. W
Wilson. They were purchased f rom \
Gordon-Van Tine several years ago and
lack some of the later improvements, but they
are roomy, well built structures in which the
owner finds much comfort and saiisfaction.
Our outbuildings are in every state and cli-
mate and have stood the tests of time and all
kinds of weather. We are proud of these
buildings as they show results of our honest
efforts to build the best for the lowest prices.

Gothic Type Barn
Built for Mr. Oxley, Charter Oak, Iowa
MR. OXLEY considers this the best built and best looking barn m his county and the illus-
tration well bears out his statement. Picture was taken before roof scaffolding had been
taken down and before it had been entirely painted. Size 40x48, Gordon-Van Tine plan No.
221. Completed costs were about $2,500. We could show you many more pictures of Gor-
don-Van Tine Gothic barns, but we have not the space. However, it was our intention to show
as many different designs as possible and located so as to show the national satisfaction which
Gordon-Van Tine materials and service give.

Attractive Barn at Hubbard, Iowa,
Built by Aug. Saaksmeier
OUR barn plan No. 228, built by August
Saaksmeier. When it was purchased, he
insisted that he must have the highest
quality of materials. We were pleased to re-
ceive a letter from him, after the barn was com-
pleted, in which he tells us his feelings on the
matter. Gordon- Van Tine barns never fail to
attract attention, and wherever erected are
considered the best in that locality. A barn
which always attracts the eyes of the traveler
as he passes along the Jefferson Highway.

in dirt and darkness, but they
will do much better with sun-

well-built hog house. The
hog is the most profitable ani-

take care of it? You can't do
better than choose this same

an experienced herdsman who
made a few suggestions that
we thought would make the
building more permanent and
convenient, one cf which was
to carry the concrete founda-

the plans called for. The gen-

satisfactory.
Later on we contemplate
building more extensively.

The round barn is without doubt the

WE ARE sometimes told by visitors that they can
tell a Gordon-Van Tine barn as far as they can

finished exterior? Notice what Mr. Hannifin says of

Van Tine barn owner says the same. We are jusily
proud of these barns and we are going to continue
to furnish the same high quality material and to keep
on making improvements such as will always keep
Gordon-Van Tine's barn on top, wherever barns are
built.
